Opening Ceremony for California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery

WHO: California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Fort Ord Reuse Authority
WHAT: Opening Ceremony for the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery
WHEN: Tuesday, October 11, 2016 - 10:30 a. m. (arrive by 10 a. m.)
WHERE: California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery 2900 Parker Flats Road, Seaside

EVENT: The opening ceremony celebrates completion of the first phase of cemetery development and allows interments to begin. As part of the opening ceremony, CalVet plans to conduct a memorial service with military honors and interment for Maj. William Williams, U.S. Army (Retired), who was instrumental in promoting development of the cemetery.

More than 600 people are expected to attend the event including federal, state, and local officials. Scheduled to speak:

· Vito Imbasciani MD, Secretary, CalVet

· Sam Farr, U.S. Representative

· Bill Monning, California State Senator

· Mark Stone, California State Assemblymember

· Ralph Rubio, Mayor, City of Seaside

· George Eisenbach, National Cemetery Administration

BACKGROUND: This event recognizes the Monterey Bay Area’s decades-long commitment to establishing a final resting place and lasting tribute to our Veterans who served and sacrificed to preserve the freedoms we enjoy.
