Governor Brown Appoints New CalVet Secretary

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointment:

Vito Imbasciani, 69, of Los Angeles, has been appointed secretary at the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet). Imbasciani has been director of government relations at the Southern California Kaiser Permanente Medical Group since 2004, where he has been a urologic surgeon since 1997. He served as state surgeon for the California Army National Guard from 2006 to 2014 and as a surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1986 to 2014. Imbasciani is president-elect of the Los Angeles County Medical Association and a member of the California Medical Association Board of Trustees and the California Association of Physician Groups Board of Directors. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts degrees in musicology from Cornell University. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $188,451. Imbasciani is a Democrat.
