CalVet, Commission on the Status of Women and Girls and California State Library to Host Women’s Military History Week Reception

Update

EVENT: The California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet CalVet, the Commission on the Status of Women and Girls and the California State Library will host a reception “Celebrating Women of Character, Courage and Commitment, ” in honor of Women’s Military History Week. Speaker John A. Perez will be recognized by the Commission on the Status of Women and Girls for his commitment to issues affecting women and girls. Assembly member Sharon Quirk-Silva will deliver the keynote.

“We are proud to recognize and honor California women veterans and two in particular who have made amazing contributions to our Armed Forces and to the fabric of our great nation, ” said Lindsey Sin, CalVet Deputy Secretary for Women Veterans Affairs.

DATE: Wednesday, March 19, 2014

TIME: 5:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m.

PLACE: California State Library

900 N Street

Sacramento, CA 95814

WHO: In attendance will be Delphine Metcalf-Foster and Brigadier General Sylvia R. Crockett who will receive the CalVet Trailblazer Award for outstanding service and achievements in the military and veteran community. Also in attendance will be CalVet Executive staff, elected officials and many women still on active duty and veterans.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The third week in March is recognized annually by the Governor as Women’s Military History Week. The women who have bravely served our country are not only veterans, they are wives, mothers, daughters and sisters, and their continued health and prosperity is important to California. Women have served in every major conflict and in peacetime, whether formally recognized as members of the Armed Forces or not, and for this, women service members are owed a great debt of gratitude.
