Thanksgiving Day 2012 Message from CalVet

According to historians, in 1621, the Pilgrims celebrated a feast near Plymouth, Massachusetts following their first harvest. This feast is what most people refer to as the first Thanksgiving. It has become the model for the traditional Thanksgiving celebrations in the United States. In 1789, President Washington declared the fourth Thursday in November as a national day of "thanksgiving and prayer."

This Thanksgiving Day, enjoy your time with family and friends and enjoy a meal where being together is reason to celebrate and be grateful. Please remember the brave men and women who are serving and have served our country. Their sacrifice allows us to enjoy our way of life in the greatest nation in the world. Also remember those that go hungry and the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Our prayer for you is for peace and happiness as we reflect on all the wonderful things we have.

Happy Thanksgiving!
