CalVet Secretary Congratulates VFW on 113 Years of Service

“Each year on September 29th, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Day is celebrated at posts and community celebrations all around this nation. This year marks the 113th year since the VFW was established. On this date in 1899, a small group of Spanish-America war veterans joined together to form a special organization that has helped to mold our American society.

“What makes the VFW such a special organization is its multi-faceted approach to service. This wonderful organization has strived to help veterans and their families, while working to build our communities from the ground up. While there are several great organizations in our country that serve so many people, very few can boast about a record of more than a century of service. We at the California Department of Veterans Affairs want to say thank you to the VFW and wish this organization and its members many more years of continued success. ”
