Special Legislative Alert - California Veterans Affairs - January 25, 2007

Federal Legislation Which Impacts CAL-VET Farm and Home Loan Program

Two Members of Congress from California, Susan Davis (San Diego) and Wally Herger (Chico), have introduced a bill, H.R. 551, which would help the CAL-VET Program. Most important, it would remove the restriction in current federal laws that prevents veterans who entered service after January 1971 from being eligible for loans which are funded with tax exempt bond money. So far, 17 additional Members of Congress have become co-sponsors of the bill. They are:
Rep Howard L. Berman (Van Nuys)
Rep Brian P. Bilbray (Escondido)
Rep Ken Calvert (Riverside)
Rep Dennis A. Cardoza (Merced)
Rep Jim Costa (Fresno)
Rep Sam Farr (Salinas)
Rep Bob Filner (Chula Vista)
Rep Michael M. Honda (Campbell)
Rep Tom Lantos (San Mateo)
Rep Zoe Lofgren (San Jose)
Rep Doris O. Matsui (Sacramento)
Rep Jerry McNerney (Stockton)
Rep Lucille Roybal-Allard (Los Angeles)
Rep Adam B. Schiff (Pasadena)
Rep Ellen O. Tauscher (Walnut Creek)
Rep Henry A. Waxman (Los Angeles)
Rep Lynn C. Woolsey (Santa Rosa)

We need all of the remaining 34 Representatives from this state to also co-sponsor this bill. Please try to energize your members to start communications going to any Representative who is not listed above.

A list of all California Members of Congress, including their District addresses, their Washington addresses, and how they can be reached by e-mail, is provided at http://www.califveterans.com/Congress.htm

A full description of H.R. 551 has been posted at http://www.califveterans.com/Federal%20Legislation.htm

Also, a sample letter has been posted at http://www.califveterans.com/Support%20 ... %20551.htm

This letter can be copied, pasted in any word processor or e-mail form, and sent to the Representative (after adding the sender’s name, address, and other personal information as desired).
