CALIFORNIA SENATE BILL 287

Back in March of 2006 the Modesto/Central Valley Blue Star Mothers & Families and our wonderful supporters, sent many, many letters to our Elected State Officials encouraging those elected to submit a bill that would establish Gold Star Family License Plates in the State of California. What prompted our action was one of our dear friends, Gold Star Mother Jennifer Tyson tried to obtain a special Gold Star plate at the Modesto Department of Motor Vehicles., after learning from other Gold Star Mother’s across the United States that many of them were able to obtain Gold Star plates in their home States. Upon her visit to the DMV, she found that the State of California did not have these plates, which prompted her to bring it to our groups attention. For those that are not familiar with the term Gold Star Mother, for generations it has meant a mother that has lost her son or daughter while serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. The Gold Star term now includes those that have lost a sibling, parent and spouse while serving our country. All across the United States, Gold Star Families are honored with special plates, and we stronglyl feel that California should honor these families as well. After many months of promises and patiently waiting for our Elected State Officials to take action concerning this legislation, We are PROUD to announce that Senator Jeff Denham has taken the lead and has introduced California Senate Bill 287. This Bill will finally establish Gold Star Family Plates in the State of California. We are also proud to announce that we will be co-sponsors of this legislation.

We want to encourage EVERY citizen of California to contact their local State Official by either calling, email, by snail mail or by fax and ask them to support this Bill. This will only take a few moments of your time and it will mean so much to California’s Gold Star Families. Let us all show our GOLD STAR FAMILIES how much we care and ask our State Officials to pass California Senate Bill 287 in record time!
